Observation details
continuing; frequent ’kek-kerr’ calls lower-pitched, more resonating than would be expected from Clapper, though there is much overlap between the two species’ vocalizations (tempo of ‘kek’ calls more reliable for identification per Sibley); I would normally hesitate to identify a heard-only large rail giving this particular call in Essex County past ‘Clapper/King Rail’, especially in the salt marsh where Clapper is the expected species, but these same calls were heard from a visually confirmed King in the same exact location last year at this time; hopefully someone sees the bird soon, but most factors point towards a King Rail on territory north of the bridge for a second consecutive year
