Observation details
For the First time, this bird 🐦 has been reported from the College Tilla, MBB College campus. Initially we located one individual by hearing it's distinct call from a long distance. Gradually we approached cautiously tracking the sound, and then within 5 minutes, we saw the first Hooded Pitta. It was perched high above the ground (5 metres approximately) on the branch of a Nageshwar tree (Mesua ferrea), constantly uttering it's double noted territorial call. To our surprise, its call was responded by two other individuals, which were lurking inside the forest undergrowth , behind the MBB stadium. We were really very lucky that these, shy and secretive birds gave us ample opportunity to observe their behaviour for a while. Today's outing was immensely fruitful as we were fortunate enough to see these beautiful Pittas at the heart of Agartala city.
