Media notes

NOTES: DOUGLAS COUNTY. SONG; MUTED SONG; GROWLS-AND-CLUCKS; QUOKS; DEEP GROWLS; CUCKOO NOTE. Sex: 1-3 UNKNOWN [These clips appear to represent examples used by Mengel and Jenkinson (1971. Vocalizations of the Chuck-will's-widow and some related behavior. Living Bird 10: 171-184) in their review of vocalizations in this species. The examples are as follows (each preceded on tape by an explanation): seven songs (0:27-0:40), three "Muted" songs (0:47-1:03 - though I cannot see why these aren't simply normal songs recorded at a distance), "Growl" and "Cluck" calls (1:09-1:20), "Quok" and "Deep Growl" Calls (1:25-1:32), three "Departure Notes" by female and "Growls" and "Clucks" by male (1:44-1:46), "Cuckoo" Note (1:54), and about 16 "Quok" calls (2:05-2:13) and one "deep Growl" (2:08). Quality changed from 1-3 to 2-1, 3 (much variability with some calls quite weak) - CAM - 8 November 2005]. Habitat: Park/Campus/Cemetery, Second-growth.
