Observation details
MEGA LIFER!!! We visited the place where Tawny Faced Quail was heard two days ago hoping for some vocalizations. At 5:47 p.m. we heard our first male calling, probably marking territory. We waited until it got completely dark and started looking for that unicorn, ghosts do exist! We heard him call more than 7 or 8 times. As we tried to triangulate, the sound at 7:45 pm did not Vocalize again, so we returned to the hotel for dinner. At 9:30 p.m. we return to the area where we believe he was calling. At 10:35 he makes another vocalization after he finishes responding 2 more males respond to his call on the same area. Simply AMAZING! We think we may be at the height of their breeding season, which is why the males are so active marking their territories we heard two more males far maybe 150 or 200 meters down hill so 5 males calling and marking their territories. I kept looking looking and finally my most wanted and dreamed bird. At almost 1:02 a.m. I came to find it perched no more than 2 meters at eye level, we left it there and did not bother it anymore. As we know this species is One of the most difficult birds to see on CR so some important things we need to know before we go there there is probably a good number of males marking territory which means that eventually and Hopefully there would be little chicks soon so something important if you visit the area please DON'T bother them with flash,Too much playback and Please protect this beautiful species! Also watch out your step all the time while we where walking we saw 4 Fer de lances and one was just next to the roosting site of the Quail. As I heard the people from the Lodge told me that the time when People find it on 2019 after a time some person came and scare it out of the area.. so please don't put too much light and bother the species otherwise they would probably move deeper in the Jungle and would be harder to see it later on future. Photos will be attached
