Observation details
I hoped to get more photos of the pair nesting in the marsh, but the American Lotus is already sprouting and obscured my view. I did observe a sort of comical encounter between one of the PBGR pair and a baby WODU that wandered too close to the nest site. The grebe was sitting stock still in the vegetation as the clueless duckling approached. The grebe did the sinking, vanishing act and about two seconds later the duckling bolted off in a flapping panic. I'm guessing the grebe chomped on the little guy's foot from below and scared the daylights out of him. A couple more seconds passed and the grebe stuck its head up in the spot vacated by the duckling. I guess this qualifies as agitated behavior...not sure which species was more agitated by the encounter. Two other PBGR were heard singing in other parts of the marsh.
