Observation details
(Bird was first reported this morning by Mark and Mandy Johnson. Initially seen on the east end of Mullet Pond in the vicinity of the viewing platform that sits approximately forty yards south of the causeway. Bird could not be relocated in the same area at 12:07 p.m. but was spotted on the west end of Mullet Pond some thirty yards from the causeway as I drove out of the Park at 12:21 p.m.) Plumage was highly variable. Top of head pale rusty to golden in color with black patch on back of neck. Partial ruff primarily golden with brown flecks while the throat was somewhat lighter. Breast showed prominent black splotches on white background. Undertail clean white. Feathering on back primarily dark brown with buffy outlines. Rather loose tertials slightly lighter than back with some golden tones noted. Bill was ever-so slightly drooped, pale near base and pinkish-orange at its midsection with a dark tip.
