Observation details
At least two, possibly three individuals seen resting on and flying around a large rock where gulls, pelicans, egrets, oystercatchers, and other shorebirds were congregated. There are two such rocks at this beach. This was the southerly one, across the road from the road leading into the town of Pescadero. These were all adults in non-breeding plumage. Plain yellow bill with steep angle on upper tip, white face with gray auricular mark on both sides, medium-dark gray mantle, black wing tips show no white windows, and on one of the individuals, we could see black legs, quite short compared to other gulls.
