Observation details
A rail-like bird with upright carriage and high stepping gait and tail slightly cocked up was seen at a dirt road leading to Handya-Kundya camp. A large stream runs parallel to this road, at 600-700 m elevation, flowing westwards and then northwards to meet River Aner ( a tributary of River Tapi ) at Handya-Kundya. Weather was overcast, slight drizzles had occurred in the morning. The observed bird had greenish-grey, slaty legs, dark brown upperparts, extensive black and white barring on the underside, greyish bill and red eyes. It had long toes and short tail. Later, on comparing images in field guides, it was identified as Slaty-legged Crake. 3 images and a video was captured by Prasad Sonawane.
