Observation details
After watching the reverse migration, we were walking along the west side of Fish Point heading north when I saw a raptor-like bird coming towards us low over the trees. I assumed it would be a falcon and was quite surprised when a look in my bins confirmed that it was a Mississippi Kite! I alerted all the other birders who were present and we watched the magnificent bird as it cruised by us, fairly low down, in perfect light over the edge of the beach. It then turned and flew straight out over the lake to the southwest. We watched it until it was a mere speck and we did not see it return. Photos to be added. Unlike most MIKIs we see in May in southwestern Ontario, this individual appeared to be an adult (not a 1st summer).
