Observation details
Notes in the field: first noticed two plovers fly across the mud flats, the first I immediately IDd as PIPL but the second was larger and darker. I first thought SEPL but then they landed and I immediately noticed the characteristics fitting of a Wilson’s, mainly the thick dark single band across the chest and the huge honking bill. Familiar with this species from FL and Jamaica I did want to be sure on the ID as I was unsure of the level of rarity in MA. I continued to watch it for 20ish minutes as it foraged and got plenty of scope photos. The white eyeline extended above the bill with a slight dark spot on top, the area below that between the eye and bill was slightly darker and the white collar wrapped all the way around on slightly interrupted by a few grey feathers in the back. The back color was slightly lighter then a SEPL. The bird flew closer and foraged for a little here (41.6539886, -69.9662841) before flying off east towards the sandbar. Photos TBA
