Hammond's/Dusky Flycatcher
Observation details
When first seen this bird struck me as being longer billed and with a short primary extension than Hammond's. However neither feature seems out of the range for Hammond's and the overall colors do not eliminate Hammond's. The bill was orangey pale below with a bit of duskiness toward the tip. This bird never called. It did not drop its tail but flicked it up a few times. We never saw it flick its wings. It actively foraged at mid-level in trees, sometimes returning to the same tree but often moving to a different tree. Because Dusky is a casual species in SLO County, photos are being circulated for comments. Photos
