Observation details
First detected by its slightly larger and longer appearance compared with the nearby Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers. Long, tapered profile with folded wingtips clearly extending behind tail; black legs; moderately long bill with slight droop; crisp black streaks across breast and trickling back onto flanks. I did not get a good view of the rump, but the black streaks on breast and flanks were enough to distinguish the bird from a Baird's, which would be expected to show a buffy chest rather than crisp black streaks. This bird was also foraging on the "front lines" of the mud islands and wet fringes, which is behavior more typical of White-rumped than Baird's.
