Observation details
This species is common in the dry forest of northern Peru, but rare in Lima. This would be the southernmost record on eBird. Although its documented distribution extends south to northern Lima, it has only been reported in Valle del Río Fortaleza so far. Sebastián was the one that first spotted the bird, while Óscar was seeing the dark-billed cuckoo at the other side of the forest. The bird was quite cooperative and several times it perched at an exposed branch. A flycatcher of the size of a tropical kingbird, also with yellow underparts, but otherwise very different, with a notorious dark face mask, a lot of rufous in the upperparts and a forked tail. Photographed. No vocalizations were heard.
