Observation details
Primera voz 0659. Dos individuos llamando entre las 0708 y las 0800 (IE). Sun rise 07:08. One individual called with kwee calls ca. 800m to northeast during 0659-07:02. After walking ca. 400 m to west we heard tudu and excited kwee calls at 07:50 near the trail. A male and female flew with loud wingbeats to a dead tree with the top broken off and with an odd, large eggplant shaped excavated cavity entrance that did not seem a nest entrance (nest entrances are smaller and round) nor a roost (which are decay-formed cavities). The pair displayed at this cavity entrance with head swaying movements and soft calls (photo). The female climbed to the top of the broken tree (photo) and flew off at 08:03. The male at 08:07 flew from the cavity tree to a dead dry Guadua bamboo ca. 10 m away where it gave one tudu call and then drummed from 08:08 to 08:18 (photo and video), then flew (ML).
