Observation details
There was a female Hepatic Tanager in the trees close to the ACE Hardware building. This bird mostly stayed hidden and it kept making the call that Sibley describes as “a low dry chup” (which I recorded and attached). The Tanager did take one perch where I got a good views of the head and bill. The bill was very stout and it was all blackish (vs. WETA and SUTA) in the views that I got. The bill was certainly larger that that of a WETA and not the shape of a SUTA bill. No wing bars were ever seen. The Hepatic Tanager showed gray areas in the face and the body that help eliminate SUTA.
