Observation details
Small flock of flyby White-winged Crossbills, seen feeding briefly. Initially identified by call notes when hearing the dry, chattery call as flyovers. I didn't have binoculars with me when they flew overhead. In flight, they were noted as stout finches with black wings and white wing bars (contrast was noted in flight). After flying overhead they landed in a neighboring spruce, chattering nonstop as they pried cones for several minutes. Last seen flying NW. Photo has been cropped greatly, while taken at a distance.
