Observation details
Adult feeding juvenile, juvenile crying for attention and food. This individual is a juvenile Mangrove Finch and wanted to provide some additional information. For the summer of 2013 I interned at the Charles Darwin Research Station and was fortunate enough to go out on some field research trips. For one of the trips I spent 3 nights camping out on Playa Tortuga Negra assisting conservation biologist Fracesca Cunningham conduct surveys for the avian vampire fly (Philonis downsii) to better understand its impact on Mangrove Finch populations. Francesca was also netting and banding Mangrove Finches to track reproductive success. While wading through the mangroves, I observed this juvenile following and being fed by a banded adult Mangrove Finch. Although I do not have the band code, I do have a video documenting the behavior in which the band is visible on the adult.
