Observation details
Foraging in Chihuahua pines more or less together, a male and a female, loosely with Yellow-rumped Warblers. The male had bright yellow head and face, black throat, whitish underparts below the throat without any yellow (as in hybrids), gray back without greenish. No signs of hybridization in form of yellow or steaks on underparts or greenish on back. After looking at photos initially of the female I thought it might be a hybrid but after posting on a FB group, getting feedback and perusing many images in MacCauley Library, I came to the conclusion this bird fits well within the boundaries of a pure Hermit phenotypically. She did have blurry streaks on the sides and flanks, but some birds do, the apparent yellow on the breast in one photo is due to lighting. Later, about a tenth of a mile away, another male seen though it easily could have been the same bird.
