Observation details
Upon arriving, Vickie Buck and Sally Hill also arrived. Lisa and I and Vickie and Sally walked over to the road approaching the pond and just stood there, listening, and doing some talking. At about 1053, we heard the "cat" mew call of the catbird. Then it gave one "ratchet" call and started mewing some more. I began recording and was able to get several mews recorded. It was some time later that I was able to see the bird as it came out from its usual spot (a medium-sized waxmyrtle) and hopped onto a low branch and then continued N into some thick brush again and out of sight. I was able to see the overall slender gray bird with beady black eye, black cap and dark slender bill. Could not see the undertail coverts. When the bird moved from one location to another it was just above the top of the sedges; very difficult to see; too quick for photo.
