Observation details

Early - MAY 13 is the average early arrival date (http://dates.bosbirds.com). First heard “coo coo coo” calls from the marsh, then saw the bittern fly across an indent in the reeds. Small, buffy, heron-like bird with darker back and cap. Just after I wrote this description, it popped out from the reeds and perched to hunt over the water. Photos. FOY
