Observation details
This is a first record of this species for the Galapagos. I saw flying into one of the small white mangroves by the main dock of the town and I managed to take two pictures. Next day I reported this observation via mail to the director of the Galapagos National Park. One week later I learned from the director of the GNP that the bird was found and captured by park rangers at the same location. The fact that it was found in the town of Puerto Ayora made them assume that it probably arrived hitchhiking onboard one of the cargo ships that serves the islands, as this species is very common in the coast of Ecuador. My understanding is that the captured Grackle was eliminated by the park rangers, but I am not 100% sure about this.
