Observation details
Displaying male on the lek. Males of both parent species present to compare to this individual. Hybrid size comparable to GRPC, but slightly smaller. Body plumage paler and more finely barred than GRPC, but not perfectly matching LEPC. Tail length intermediate as well. Air sacs large like GRPC, but showing a wide ring of deep red-orange color (like LEPC) surrounding a brighter yellow-orange center (color like GRPC). Vocalizations distinguishable from both species with deeper booming (like GRPC) but with a more gargled sound and a higher pitched. Behavior very interesting: hybrid routinely moved between Greater and Lesser areas of the lek, challenging males of both species and eventually retreating from every challenge.
