Media notes
Presumed hybrid Red-shouldered x Red-tailed Hawk perched to left of adult Red-tailed Hawk that had flown up to this position, joining the hybrid. The low stance showing here was held the entire time by the Red-tail.
Observation details
This is the same adult hawk first found 18 December. Today near the end of the day with "warm" sunshine illuminating perches, this bird was seen perched facing into the sun on a couple of different perches. At one point a Red-tailed Hawk flew up and landed close to it, the two staying together with no obvious interaction agonistic or otherwise. The Red-tailed, although larger, maintained a low and almost horizontal stance, head held low. This all seemed odd suggesting some familiarity between the birds.
