Observation details
from the bow of the boat after hald of day of seabirding I was watching a seabird about 300 meters off the bow of the boat. I was flying different than all the Shearwaters we'd seen this day; flying lower to the surface of the water, and darting atop the waves without as much need to flap its wings. It's a dark day, but even in the limited light I can back and wings; a darker wedge on the back and wings offset by medium gray back and rump. The dark bill is striking against the white throat. Its FAST! and zips with the winds just above the Surface of the water; gliding in perfect in perfect harmony above the waves. Suddenly, someone calls out, "Cook's Petrel!"
