Media notes
The bird pictured in ML430758481 produced these sounds, which are periodically frequency-modulated downslurs. The vast majority of sounds produced by the flock in flight were of this type. The digital-8 tape was played on a Sony GV-D200 deck and the digital recording was ported to a HP laptop, via a firewire connection, where it was captured with Corel Video Studio software. The soundtrack was exported to wav file, and was edited for upload with Signal Sound Analysis software.
Observation details
On the summit. frame by frame analysis of video of fly-by confirmed 17 individuals, but 20-24 more likely real number. Downslurred calls recorded are not well-represented in ML, but then most of those samples were recorded in winter. A similar sound in breeding season, and not too far to the north, is ML165790161.
