Observation details
**Very Rare. Less than 10 records in Puerto Vallarta. After asking Gerardo about the presence of swifts, he mentioned that all PV usually gets in the region where we were was VASW, and even that was rare. But about 15 minutes later, while walking towards the car, he went, “That looks like a swift.” We both got on it and all we could say was, “Oh my god.” While he said, “It can’t be,” I said, “That’s a Great Swallow-tailed Swift!” We we’re both mind-blown to say the least. This exceptionally plumaged species, with its long forked tail, white throat and nape, black face, body and long wings, and white trailing edge on the wings. For Gerardo this was a lifer, which is saying something since he’s boarded the region for over 25 years! A marvelous and rare species to cap a marvelous day!
