Observation details
Discovered this morning by Chris Chappell. Two similar appearing, smallish mergansers resting near the middle of the lake, but rather distant. Viewed with high-power spotting scope. Bill thin and appearing to be slightly upturned, head less reddish than that of Common Merganser female/immature male. No abrupt demarcation between head/neck and white upper breast as in Common Merganser, head with wispy crest unlike that of Common Merganser. Poor, heavily cropped photos, yet diagnostic I believe.
