Observation details
Two males showed up at the feeders around 12:00, made repeated visits until about 12:45. One visited the pond briefly at 12:39. Then both hanging around most of the afternoon, often perched up in tall hawthorn at SW corner of yard, until at least 15:45, one still present at 17:50. May have seen them flying off to NE at 18:40 (two large-headed short-tailed Haemorhous finches, that didn’t call). Singing occasionally and giving warbly calls, some recordings. Haemorhous finches with red most pronounced on crown, rosy pink upper breast and face; short notched tails, fine streaks on sides and back, streaked undertail coverts, long primary projection, bills very pointed with straight culmen.
