NOTES: "Peeping sounds from brood of coots-faint at first, become louder. 'pop' sound from adult; Also: red-winged blackbirds, frogs, adult coot, fly, snipe" (WWHG) [Most of the calls here appear to represent the "Squawk" Calls of young coots (at roughly two days of age based on Fig. 2c (left side) in Cosens, S. E. 1981. Can. J. Zool. 59: 1921-1928), but the soft "pops" appears to have been given by the adult (e.g., 0:435, 0:45, 0:47, 0:49, 0:52), these presumably representing the "puht" or "punt" Recognition Calls of parent-young contact described in BNA.
