Observation details
Continuing bird. Singing in same spot previously reported. Light eye, triangular chest markings, Buffy breast. Moving all over. Singing a lot. Photos and audio. This bird can be quite stealthy when not singing. It was kind of amusing at times. It would sit up in a bush in full view and sing for a while, then drop down and disappear. Some of the time it would quickly reappear in a completely different spot a good distance from where it had just been as though it had teleported itself. Sometimes it took longer before we saw or heard it again once it dropped into the bushes or onto the ground. It doesn't like to be approached. To get anywhere close for photos, best to stay in the car, or mostly hidden by the car. Song is quite distinct and easy to hear. Regarding driving out there: We used Nancy's coordinates: 33.33311, -116.29527 Rockhouse Trail (road the bird is on) should be driveable in any vehicle, but the drive isn't all that pleasant. Road is dirt after a tiny section of pavement and a lot of it is washboard. Some areas of heavy sand, but they can be avoided. We drove in vehicles without 4 wheel drive and our speed was between 5 and 15 mph. It's about 2.6 to 2.7 miles down Rockhouse Trail to where the bird is. So it takes some time to get there. The spot where the bird currently is has a shoulder/pullout area where a small number of cars can park and be out of the road.
