Observation details
***Broome County Bird***. Our Group was set up in the IBM Homestead parking lot next to a fence overlooking the Polar Shot Driving Range. We were viewing from behind a fence looking north. There was a flock of approximately 250 Canada Geese. Within the flock, I noticed three very small white geese. They were much smaller than the Canada Geese. When I got a look at them, I noticed that they were lacking the grin patch that is noticeable in Snow Geese. These Geese all had the same color scheme of Snow Geese. It was at that point that I decided that we had indeed found 3 Ross's Geese. We were able to get the word out to other birders. We were glad that three other birders stopped by and agreed on our identification of Ross's Goose. Not bad for a Christmas Bird Count find.
