Observation details
Gray headed and seemed small billed, but I didn’t get a great look at the bill or the rest of the bird as it was a bit shaded. I recorded the call. May have had faint wing bars. I’ll do more research and look at the call to see if I can nail down the subspecies. The call in some ways reminded me of a Pacific wren in quality (but only single, not paired notes), and definitely not a Cal towhee sound. Based on my review of the call, and what I did see, I think it was a slate-colored.
