Observation details
Very clear, in front of me foraging in dead leaves under bird feeder and bushes. The setting is very rural, in the Loess Hills, very secluded, mixed vegetation of bushes, trees, meadows. I saw it first at dawn at 7.15 am, then later during this bird count. I compared Spotted and Eastern towhee. The towhee I saw foraging right in front of me, had a bold white patch on the side of its wings like the Eastern has. I am familiar with this species, we have them here in Spring and Summer. I attach a photo from a previous year to illustrate what I saw. Kicking leaves with both feet at the same time.
