Observation details
Presumably rarity seen in late Dec-early Jan in Salem - Cumberland counties. Seen in private farm field amongst ~20 killdeer. Bird initially flushed while shed hunting, with naked eye could see it was larger and more robust - striking black/white underwings, somewhat undulating flight. When it peeled out, white tail band was easily seen too. Some time later - was able to get binoculars out of truck and viewed bird from about 75 yards to confirm ID. Poor diagnostic photos available.
