Observation details
Was working on some flight photos and had some good captures of this duck that seems good for Mexican. Many, many ducks collect in this pooled area on the river just below WTP. All orange bill is clearly evident along with the dark body that appears uniform all the way through under-tail coverts. Coverts lack any hint of white or speckling (legs spread, 4th image). Tail feathers are brown with pale edging (landing approach, 2nd image), which still seems good for Mexican. Very different in comparison with regular mallard photos showing tail feathers that have white throughout. No evidence of any curling on upper-tail covets. Tertials are dark, white borders to speculum thinner (particularly in comparison to Mallard's bold white border) and give some color comparison in same light for tail. This bird certain seems comparable to other accepted records and other images for Mexican Duck.
