Observation details
Seems well outside “dark Kumliens” appearance, with solid dark tertials and tail band, contrasting Herring-like wing pattern. Also slightly larger and longer-billed than Kumliens. Picked out as it flew in and instantly stood out, pale overall but with distinctly darker primaries and tail, fortunately landed at near edge of flock and posed for a few minutes, until an eagle flushed the flock again for good. The possibility of Herring x Kumliens hybrid can’t be ruled out, but Thayer’s seems more likely
