Observation details
Continuing juvenile bird (reported by Jason V. on 2/24, but likely around for several weeks) seen very well off north beach. Large lightly colored loon with an angular forehead and a large upturned cream and yellow bill. I first joined a group of birders east of north beach pond to observe it, but then moved to West Point as the YBLO came southwest. The loon ended up passing within 75 yards of the beach while it was actively foraging, and at one point I saw it swallow some type of pleuronectiform. I captured digiscope video of it, of course, but photos here are from my new camera (finally!). My first Yellow-billed Loon for Discovery and the best views of one I’ve ever had.
