Observation details
First heard a call that didn’t belong behind me in the cornfield while I was scoping the pond. Whipped out my phone and started recording. Scanned with scope until I found a couple meadowlarks sitting on old corn stubble. One was noticeably paler than the other and I watched it make the calls. Then to my delight it started singing. I knew what it was then. I attempted digiscoping but I haven’t quite figured out the 2-lens situation on the newer phones where it keeps switching back and forth. At one point the bird turned its flank toward me and I saw the fine little dash marks of a WEME rather than the blurry smudges of an EAME. Audio of song and calls to be uploaded
