Observation details
Amazing, shocking find. We were driving along on Mersea Rd 2 toward the lake, showing my cousin David a “typical” afternoon of birding, and just after the intersection with Mersea Rd 21, I stopped the car and said to Emma, “I don’t think that was an Eastern Kingbird or Robin…” Emma and David had no idea what I was referring to because we were really just casually driving around and talking at the time. Sure enough, we backed the car up to find a Gray Kingbird in all its glory, sitting on the roadside hydro line. It would be seen by a dozen or so local birders within about an hour of finding it, then surprisingly, by many other birders over the following two days. I used the Couture Dyke hotspot because we found it about 100m north of this trail at the edge of Hillman Marsh, and it eventually flew out of sight over Couture Dyke trail.
