Observation details
Two very dark small ducks flew pass us near the middle (green buoy) of the south jetty at about 10 yards from the rear heading out to sea. We watched them with binoculars and 35X scope until they reached near the end of the jetty and pealed off from over the shipchannel to the south side of the jetty and landed about 50-100 yards from the jetty and quickly swam back to the jetty all the while we were studying them in the scope. At a distance of at least 1/4 mile we could see the white spot of the ear and white spot at the base of the bill. As we hurried down the jetty to relocate the 2 ducks, Mikael and Brent discussed that the birds appeared all dark (possibly black) in flight (rear view) except for the 2 white spots. We eventually found the ducks swimming to shore while foraging along the jetty on the south side. Mikael and Brent spent an hour observing and photographing the ducks at distances of 5-15 yards. Dora Ann due to a leg injury was not able to walk on the jetty, but was able to observe the ducks with a 50X scope when they got closer to shore. Photographs to follow.
