Observation details
Fine light and dark streaking on crown; patterned wing coverts; plainer face pattern than Marsh Wren and with dull, buffy supercilium (not white); characteristic song and chips notes. Well seen off and on over 10 minutes. I haven’t seen this species often, so I was thrown at first by the bold pattern of black with white stripes on the mantle. But the pattern appears to be consistent with this species. The patterning on the wing coverts included greater coverts with black centers and white tips, so that the pattern blended with the brown and tan barring on the flight feathers.
