Observation details
In this vicinity exists the evening roost for the entire population of this species on Oahu Island. Multiple passing flocks of two to approximately 50 individuals were seen in low light conditions (sun below the horizon). The two birds in the video are immature Red-crowned parrot individuals indicated by limited red head coloration barely filling the forecrown region. Contrast them with the mature Lilac-crowned parrot (LCPA) pair in this checklist. The Lilac-crowned have a dark red coloration that is always limited to the forecrown compared with the brighter, scarlet of even immature Red-crowned parrots. Additionally LCPA have darker facial skin and noticeably more profuse and bolder colored scalloped contour feather margins and longer and more tapered tails.
