Observation details
Medium-sized shorebird with a very long and straight bill having a slight taper toward the tip. Birds are in winter plumage. Differs from the Short-tailed Dowitcher with the breast markings and mantle feathers. The LBDO has more extensive coloration on the breast and the mantle feathers have more contrast being darker in the center and lighter on the edges than the STDO. The bills on the photographed birds seem to be a little more than 2 times the head length. See photos...
