Observation details
Initial excellent spotting by Praveen, who saw the tail movement in a well-shaded bamboo clump far off. The bird was perched at mid-height in the bamboo, and we all saw the orange and black (drongo-black in camera). We watched it for a while then moved closer by the stream where Rahul and Albin told us we could wait for it to show itself. Here, we also realised what a monarch's song sounds like. We got good views, then moved on. We later saw what's probably the same pair of shamas, but quite close, and singing beautifully! The tail is so pretty, and no lesser than that of a paradise flycatcher's when it takes off!
