Observation details
Adult Thayer’s Gull X Kumlien’s [Iceland] Gull at Canal Park, Duluth, Minnesota, 24 Nov 2016. At first glance, the reduced amount of pigment in the wingtip (tiny mark on outer web of p6 and no markings on p5) and less-than-true-black markings on p7-10, suggest Kumlien’s Gull. However, the white mirror on p10 is not terminal, and the white tongue-mirror on p9 does not extend completely across p9 to join the p10 mirror. Up to 20% of the Kumlien’s-type gulls of all ages that we image in the Duluth-Superior area prove to be intergrades.
