NOTES: (Breeding Status: Not Territorial; Sound: Song?, Call?; Gen. Climate: Humid; Cover Den: Open) This is the sedentary race of Florida Sandhill Cranes which number only about 4000-6000 according to Terres. The migratory sandhills had left by this date, but the birds were not yet paired and nesting. This information was supplied by the ranger naturalis at the Park Headquarters. We did see one pair feeding together on a small island in the Prairie. Other Behaviors: Establish Flock Contact. Habitat: Freshwater, Swamp, Lake.
