Observation details
First bird spotted by James, quietly foraging among mixed flock. After a few minutes it was clear there was a pair, both quite cooperative and coming close for fabulous views and some nice photos. Audio recordings difficult with traffic noise not far away, even though one bird sang seven times. Later on we stopped near the cave, where a bird was singing occassionally and calling from high in the treetops. With almost no breeze, little insect sound away from the grassy field and absolutely no traffic noise down behind the hill, its calls rang clearly from high in the canopy across the clearing. After a few minutes, it suddenly swooped out from its unseen perch and attacked a Cuban Bullfinch - nearly making contact - and flew up to land in a smaller, shorter cluster of trees just in front of me. Here, with just ten seconds of encouragement, it sang beautifully four times for a great recording and an unforgettable experience. What an incredible song!
