Observation details
I took a short walk along the beach below the Prairie du Sac Dam. I heard a song that I didn't recognize and thought it might be an odd singing Oriole or Robin, so when a first year male Summer Tanager came into view and began singing it was a nice surprise. The bird probably a little over half red with still quite a bit of blotchy green coloration. It had a larger paler bill than a Scarlet Tanager and did not have black wings. I was unable to get any photos but I did get a couple sound recordings while is sang overhead. It was located south of the parking lot where the sandy beach ends and turns into a trail up into the oak forest. Just a few steps into the woods is where the tanager was singing to the west of the trail.
