Observation details
At last! As we pulled up to the location we were given, James abruptly hit the brakes to listen to distant chatters and squeaks - parakeets! Nicole ran and tracked down the tree they were in while James drove up behind and parked the car. The flock was very high and a bit distant, tough to spot in harsh light. As we walked up to stand a little closer, the whole flock suddenly flew, and much to our delight (and relief) they all landed much closer to us in a low tree with a broad, shady canopy. We walked around so the sun was at our backs, and the birds continued to squabble, cuddle, preen, eat and sleep in the open branches above us, completely unfazed by our presence, until we eventually decided it was time to leave. Beautiful red underwing coverts!
