Observation details
So!! I was just done heading up the hill when, out of nowhere, I heard what can only be described as a rattling groan like the girl from The Grudge... at the time, I theorised it was probably a Raven and left it at that. But then, as I was photographing the Treecreepers, I heard an unmistakable creaking, rusty call, and there they were, flying away in the same slow, deep style as a Yellow-Tailed Black, yet only the size of a Galah!!! GANG-GANGS!!! Given the open, hilly, rocky terrain, I was absolutely astonished to see these gorgeous creatures!! I ended up running back up the hill to tree them in a stand of Wattles... there, while the camera struggled a bit to focus for some reason, I had some fantastic views of the adult male peered down at me in confusion, his wispy crest poking up from his tight little helmet of red!! They all eventually flew down to a stand of large Gums, and there I managed to have a really nice photoshoot with a young male; this one really showed the chubby, wooly-looking cheeks that lend its kind an almost Owl-like appearance... and then they were gone and, already running out of time, I headed back to the house one last time!!
